When Bloody Civilian's "Wake Up" exploded on TikTok in 2022, few knew that behind the haunting vocals and raw lyrics was a former medical student who almost gave up on music entirely.

Born Emoseh Khamofu, the singer-songwriter and producer has since become one of the most exciting voices in alternative Afrobeats, collaborating with Stormzy on "Hide & Seek" and contributing to the critically acclaimed "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" soundtrack.

Q: Your journey to music was unconventional. Tell us about it.

"I was studying medicine, but I was miserable. Music was my escape, but I never saw it as a career until a friend forced me to post a cover online. The response was overwhelming. I realized that maybe this was what I was meant to do."

Q: How did the "Black Panther" opportunity come about?

"Ludwig Göransson reached out after hearing my demos. Working on that project was surreal. Here I was, a girl from Abuja, contributing to one of the biggest films in the world. It validated every risk I had taken."

Q: Your music is very personal and raw. How do you balance vulnerability with public expectation?

"I don't. I make music for myself first. If people connect with it, great. If not, that's fine too. I think audiences are tired of manufactured perfection. They want real stories, real emotions, real people."

Q: What advice do you have for other alternative artists?

"Don't try to fit into a box. Afrobeats is evolving, and there's room for all of us. The people who will change the game are the ones brave enough to be themselves. Also, learn production. Understanding the technical side gives you so much creative freedom."

Q: What's next?

"My debut album is coming. I've been working on it for two years, and it's the most honest representation of who I am as an artist and person. No compromises, no trends, just truth."
